Bio

Who am I? Actively retired for the second time and devoting my time and energy to creating artistic landscape, nature and wildlife images.  I enjoy creating amazing images in well traveled and much more remote and exotic locations.  I want to engage audiences in landscapes, nature and wildlife around the globe that they probably won’t ever see in person.  I am creating more creative/artistic images including hand-crafted mixed media prints. This year I am adding motorsports art!

What I have learned through several life experiences is that if you want to be good at something you have to make a commitment, invest time & expenses and focus on your goal. I think that is true of everything in life when you want to excel.

I am actively involved with several photographic communities and have received numerous awards.

I was born and raised in Evansville, IN with one brother in a middle class family. My parents inspired both of us to be “scientists”, so we both got engineering degrees, mine in Chemical Engineering. We played Little League baseball and high school sports, in my case golf.

Scouting was a significant activity that got me outdoors and into nature. Camping and hiking were frequent activities. I was lucky to get to participate in the 1960 Boy Scout Jamboree in Colorado and hike at the Philmont Scout Ranch. It was the beginning chapter in my love of mountains and nature adventures. We hiked the Lincoln trails of Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. We also built canoes and paddled the Wabash, Green and Ohio rivers. I paddled the Region 7 Canoe Base one summer. That water was cold! I am an Eagle Scout.

After graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1970, I went on a two week vacation to Rocky Mountain NP, Tetons NP and Yellowstone NP. The following year a friend and I visited the Petrified Forest NP, Grand Canyon NP, Bryce and Zion NP, Sequoia NP, Kings Canyon NP and Yosemite NP. I shot 36 rolls of 36 exposure Ektachrome attempting to capture the grandeur of the experience. By my current image standards I failed, but it was the beginning of my photographic journey.

My careers have included engineering, corporate business management, software solutions entrepreneur, insurance sales, financial planning and photographer.

I have lived in Evansville, IN; Cincinnati, OH for college; St. Louis, MO for 10 years where my two daughters were born; Orefield, PA for 14 years and now Elgin, SC for 25 years.

My wife and I have been married for 48 years. She travels with me if I am not going to someplace cold. We have two grown daughters and three granddaughters under ten years of age. Life is good!
